Can unofficial NCLEX results change from fail to pass? ›

Can Unofficial NCLEX Results Change? While your unofficial NCLEX results can change, it's unlikely unless cheating is suspected.

Quick Results are TOTALLY accurate on if you passed the test. The BONs are different in each state. SOme take weeks, others take hours, some wait until you pass to go over all the background check stuff, some do it all before they send your ATT. Congratulations, you passed!!

What are Quick Results? Some candidates seeking licensure in the U.S. can access unofficial test results two business days after taking their exam. The NCLEX quick result service does not authorize candidates to practice as a licensed/registered nurse.

Unfortunately, the only way to know for sure if you have passed the NCLEX is to wait for your official results.

If the last question is below the level of difficulty needed to pass, the candidate fails. If the last question is above the level of difficulty needed to pass, the candidate passes.

Official results are ONLY available through your NRB and will be sent to you approximately six weeks after the exam. Do NOT call NCSBN, Pearson VUE NCLEX Candidate Services or the test center for results.

The Pearson Vue NCLEX good pop-up is when you receive an alert like this “Our records indicate you have recently scheduled this exam. Another registration cannot be made at this time” when you're trying to pay for your NCLEX after taking the exam. It shows that you probably passed the NCLEX.

In order to receive your results, you must provide a credit card number to which the $7.95 charge can be billed. (Please note: Your credit card will only be charged if your results are available.)

Candidates who attempt a certification exam with Pearson VUE will receive a score report upon completion of the exam. To view the score report, please log into Pearson VUE and click “View Score Reports” under My Account. Passing scores are set using statistical analysis and are subject to change.

How many questions can you get wrong on NCLEX-RN to pass? ›

You can answer the first 69 questions correctly, but you will automatically fail the exam if you don't reach number 70. The other way to fail the exam is simply by not answering enough questions correctly within the allotted time or by not answering enough questions correctly out of the maximum amount of 135.

Analysis, synthesis and evaluation questions would be considered higher-level NCLEX questions. Synthesis questions are based on creating or proposing solutions, such as a plan of care.

While you can fail the NCLEX PN or NCLEX RN exam in 145 questions, it's unlikely. Most students are more prepared than they think, hence why most students pass the NCLEX exams.

A Hold placed upon completion of your exam CAN and sometimes DOES delay the release of your results (via QR, or to your State BoN). The most common length of time for a hold is 24-48 hours. However, 72 hours isn't unheard of, and there's even the anomaly that goes longer than that.

Test Termination

There are three pass/fail rules for the NCLEX examinations: the Run-Out-Of-Time rule, the Maximum-Length Exam Rule and the 95-Percent Confidence Interval Rule.

Are NCLEX Quick Results Accurate? The NCLEX Quick Results/Pearson Vue Quick Results are believed to be 100% accurate. However, the quick results are computer-generated and unofficial. Official results are released by the state board of nursing, not the NCLEX Quick Results Service.

If you end up answering the full 145 questions, that is an indication that you're close to the passing standard and the computer is going to keep giving you questions until you've reached the full number of possible questions.

While it is possible to pass the NCLEX with as few as 75 questions, it is not advisable. The more questions you answer, the better your chances of passing. So, if at all possible, try to answer as many questions as you can. It could make the difference between passing and failing.

NCLEX Retake Policy

Before retaking the exam, the NCSBN requires that an individual wait 45 days from the date of their first attempt. Any additional attempts are subject to the 45-day waiting period; the applicant must wait 45 days from the date of their last attempt.

It is at this point that you can try the PVT to get an IDEA where you stand. However, your test is graded twice. Once automatically and once by Pearson Vue staff just to be sure the computer got it right. The number of questions you answered is an indication of how close you were to the passing standard. Only those candidates whose performance was close to the passing standard had to answer the maximum number of questions (130 for NCLEX-RN and NCLEX-PN).

A candidate that asks, how many questions do you need to pass NCLEX, will not receive a definite answer. Candidates must answer at least 75 questions in the five available hours or fail the test. The maximum number of questions in both exams is 145. Therefore, test-takers typically answer between 75 and 145.

Because the NCLEX is a computer-adaptive test, different students will get a different number of select all that apply questions (SATA) on the NCLEX.

Many people take the NCLEX after prepping with ATI, but pass the NCLEX with 75 questions. The “passing rate” on NCLEX is adaptive, but many state that if you pass at least 50-60% of the questions on ATI test banks, then you will pass the NCLEX.

You may get around 10-25 SATA questions in total, but that will depend on how you're answering your NCLEX questions. The majority of your NCLEX® exam is still going to be single-option multiple-choice questions. Here are a few strategies to help you master the SATA questions.
